Summer is just around the corner. Many of us are excited to bring our summer wardrobes out of hibernation. Now that we’re going to be bearing our skin, who really wants to shave every day or go through painful waxing treatments to get rid of unwanted body hair? Laser hair removal may be the solution.

If you decide to undergo these treatments soon, it’s important to limit your exposure to the sun as this can be very harmful to your skin. In fact, it’s recommended that you avoid the sun at least a week before you undergo the treatment as you may run the risk of damaging, burning or scarring your skin. Also tanned skin can be at risk for skin complications or skin pigmentation problems. In addition, if your tan is close to the color of your hair, then the laser hair removal may not be as effective as the laser’s settings may not be as aggressive. If this happens, more treatments will be necessary to remove the hair.

After laser hair removal treatments, it is advised to limit sun exposure to your skin, wear sunblock with a high SPF and wear long-sleeved clothes and hats. As excited as you are to be hair free and to get that tan either in the sun or through tanning beds, it’s best to avoid exposure altogether. Exposure to ultraviolet light can cause cancer and other complications to the skin, such as skin pigmentation change and discoloration, so avoid this exposure at least a week after the treatment.
