Who's It For?
The best candidates for liposuction are people in relatively good shape with firm, elastic skin and pockets of excess fat in certain areas. These larger or unbalanced fat deposits have not responded to diet or exercise. Men often receive liposuction under the chin or around the waist. Women may also have liposuction under the chin, on their hips, thighs, and stomach, and in the under arm and breast areas.
How It Works
- First we administer anesthesia for comfort during surgery. For smaller cases, local anesthesia numbs only the affected areas. Larger cases may require regional anesthesia, IV sedation, or general anesthesia, where patients are fully asleep throughout surgery.
- Small incisions are made in the skin, and the surgeon inserts a cannula, which is a thin, hollow tube.
- A sterile liquid solution is infused to reduce bleeding in the incision area.
- Next, a controlled, back-and-forth motion loosens the fat, and a surgical vacuum suctions and drains out the dislodged adipose tissue.
- Final sutures are applied before moving into recovery.
About Recovery
- After surgery, a compression garment or elastic bandages may cover the treated areas. These help control swelling and compress the skin against your new body contours.
- Once stable and deemed healthy for home care, we provide a tailored recovery plan, wound care instructions, and necessary medications.
- At home, you may need assistance as you return to normal daily activities in the first few days.
- You will receive more specific guidelines for gradually resuming your normal activities. Some patients take time off work, fully recovering within 1-2 weeks.
